Rotating through your pen collection

A few months ago I was going thru my pen collection flushing pens with water and got to thinking, “Hmmm, I haven’t used this pen in a while, or that one, or that one!” This went on for a while and I realized there was a small group of pens that I had been using while the rest of the collection sat in the pen cabinet. Then I started to feel bad for those pens. It was at that moment I decided to create a pen rotation. It’s really very straight forward. I carry 2-4 pens with me at given time so I go thru the drawers of the pen cabinet selecting different types of pens. I use them for 1 -2 weeks, flush them out and select again. The experience has reminded me of why I enjoy collecting vintage fountain pens and the pleasure I get from writing with them!

You're not the first I've heard mention that they carry a small set of pens for daily use. I'm curious how you go about selecting the group of pens that you carry at any one time. For example, do you tend to carry a standard selection of nib sizes/styles and ink colors? Does the selection vary based on the season or on current projects at work? etc.
At this point I only have three inexpensive pens, all with different nibs - Pilot Metropolitans with fine and medium, and a Cross Bailey with a wet writing medium nib. I keep black or blue in these pens, and often think I would like to have a different color available; maybe red, for editing, or any other nice color for writing notes to my grandchildren. Rather than adding more pens just to have them, I'm trying to be judicious in selecting them based on how they will be used and how they complement the existing set.
